Half a kill and two meals

Strange day today.... first break down of the season for Sophie, the clutch. We stopped after spotting three hyenas and the clutch made a cracking sound and went dead. Anyway we were close to camp so we could be rescued fast and we went on with Lucy.
Morning drive was slow and nice... with a couple of highlights.... two honey badgers followed by a jackal (this is definitely a honey badger year) and 4 lions of the pride we call TEN.
.

On the way back to camp we passed breakfast point and Celestino from Mdonya told me that there were lions ahead..... at the crossing we got one lioness, we watched her but the other was not visible. Warthogs came down to drink and then started running up the bank followed by a yellow arrow... the lioness missed... tried again... missed again and run again out of our sight.... we reversed as fast as possible and as we did the first lioness bolted through the river bed and we followed..... the lioness stalked somehing that was nothing more then the other one busy with an alive piglet between the paws... now they were two lioness on the piglet that died within seconds.... amazing... and then the tug of war started.... growling, hissing, spinning around... at a certain point one cat pierced the other one's ear with a claw and hold her down while trying to eat firs. Eventually the warthog was in two pieces and peace was back. We did not see the hit but we saw a bit of the chase and the death of the piglet... we did not see the complete kill but it was SuperLekker.
.

In the afternoon we got Evander and her sister on a fresh zebra kill, the second lion' meal of the day.
They both went to drink after eating a little bit then Shaya went back to the kill and Evander went off, walking in the tall grass and disappeared. We could not find where she went but I knew what she was doing... she was going to fetch the cubs and bring them at the kill.
For a good half an hour we waited while one lioness was eating... we would go searching for Evander and then we would come back.... eventually she appeared with all the cubs trotting behind her.... we went at the kill and waited there to come... was stunning, the last rays of the sun, the cubs walking and then running as they saw the zebra.... the three bigger ones (Evander's cubs) started eating, the small three weeks old one went to Shaya and started rubbing head with the bloody muzzle of the mother. He went back and forth several times form mom to kill and from kill to mom and eventually started chewing a bit of the zebra with gusto....
