Tony's cheetah 02/07/11

Strange kudu cow at old airstrip, here, body stripes were joined as to
form a weird H pattern.... that was the first remarkable sighting,
Grey crowned crane in the grassland close to he river was the second.
But it was already late morning and cats were still not complying...
we searched everywhere and eventually we found most of bushbuck pride
on a buffalo kill, all cubs and females were there but only one male
was around, the other two not to be seen.
Cubs were sleepy in the shade and after some time we left to explore
some more....
Actually we were aiming for cheetah, definitely a long call but if you
do not try, you don't find. So we went to little serengeti, I decided
to put an extra effort in it so we did all the roads of the area and
some of them we did twice... eventually when we were in the last beat
of road we could possibly roam Tony saw it.
Not the all cheetah itself but a tail flick above the yellow grass,
in the time I reversed to check it out, the head was up and Tony
gained compliments from everybody. We watched this male for long
time, his body covered with flies, rolling from side to side to get
into the shade of the baobab he was laying under.
Coming back we spotted a young female with a broken tail and a young
male close to breakfast point but they soon disappeared into the bush.
In the afternoon we went to mdonya juu and we found all the pride
there again... the cubs playing were so cute.
Lions this last season produced so many cubs, it is stunning and it
is a joy for the heart to see.
