In the morning after getting some of the supplies we needed, we headed out of town together with Isaias the Ethiopian driver from the safari company that hired us the cruiser.
We were not even out of the city center when we got our first sighting, a beautiful black winged lovebird perched on an electricity pole.
A bit of traffic in Addis and then out on the main road going south towards Shashemene.. The landscape is quite arid and densely populated. But we enjoyed being in a new country, starting a new adventure. We never stopped but regardless of the people and cultivations, birding was good, Abyssinian ground hornbill, Common crane, Abyssinian white eye.
From Shahemene we headed towards east to get as close as possible to Dinsho.
The itinerary is more interesting, lot of people walking or riding along the the road.
Oromic people is strongly connected with horses, the ride them or use carts, the horses are scruffy and small but strong and they serve their masters dutifully. It is an interesting show of colors an traditions. Old women around their tuculs, from the top of which smoke is coming out, evidence of a fire burning inside, evidence of someone cooking a meal evidence of people who strongly remains with their traditions.
We reach Dodola, it is raining, dark and muddy, the only hotel is a new building, filthy room and unpleasant people but overall a place we could stand with no big big deal.
We went for dinner in a local place… hookers staring, acceptable food
